Area Information
Just 10km from Bodrum, Bitez is an excellent destination for windsurfing and sailing thanks to the bay and pleasant breezes.
Upmarket and sedate, Bitez is a popular choice for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle of Bodrum town. The village has successfully retained it’s ‘village-y’ feel, and as a result Bitez has a really relaxed atmosphere.
Bitez is a fantastic destination for a beach day. Walk along the beach with the sea on your left and you'll come across an area where the beach is much quieter, but still with many cafes and bars. The long beach has shallow water for quite a distance; perfect for young children, and the sunbeds and umbrellas are free - an added bonus!
The bay at Bitez is naturally shallow; a perfect location for families so the children can paddle in the shallow waters. It's also perfect for beginners to get the hang of windsurfing, and there's a windsurfing school, which can also rent out all the equipment you'll need, to help you on your way. International windsurfing competitions are sometimes held at Bitez, which are stunning to watch!
Many visitors to Bitez like to walk up the hills late afternoon to watch the sunset - the height really adds to the beauty of the sunset, and there's some excellent photo opportunities too.
Those wanting more of a nightlife scene would jump on a dolmus and visit Gumbet and Bodrum.
Bitez is host to a new flea market, which is held every first Sunday of the month, as well as the traditional weekly market, which is held on a Friday in Bitez. For more shopping, again, jump on a dolmus and go to another of the many towns along the Bodrum peninsula.
Turkish baths are available in many of the larger hotels, as are swimming pools with sun loungers.
Bitez has a couple of butchers, a chemist, a post office, supermarkets and some other shops selling all the essentials. There's also a mosque, near to which is a small Turkish delight manufacturer, which is open to the public. You can see the sweet being made, and even sample the different flavours afterwards.

Transport
Bitez is served by the new airport Milas-Bodrum, only 42 km away. And there is also Izmir or Dalaman, both three and a half hours in a bus.Be aware that Turkey has a very good national coach network which links Bodrum to all major cities and towns. Regular public transport (called 'Dolmush') connects Bitez to Bodrum.
A daily car ferry also runs daily between Bodrum and the Greek island of Cos.
Weather
Both the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts have a typical Mediterranean climate with mild winters and hot summers, with temperature often rising above 30ºC (86ºF) in July and August. Showers are unlikely in the summer months, but the rainfall is quite high in winter
